It is a specially made 9-inch-long cotton thread used for the practice of Sutra Neti kriya, a cleansing technique of upper respiratory tract. Neti is the one among Shat-kriyas as described in Hathapradipika and Gheranda Samhita which purifies the nasopharyngeal cavity and frontal sinuses.
